Father’s Guilt over Son

Father’s Guilt over Son

Having a healthy son and a sick son can bring up strange emotions.

While Morgan was in the hospital I would take care of Kade at home. Kade wanted me to play with him like I normally would. I tried hard to give him all the attention that he deserved but in the back of my mind I was alway thinking of how his older brother was suffering. I still to this day feel guilty about it.

Don’t feel guilty at all. As a parent of multiple children it’s hard to stay focused on just one, and it’s especially hard to stay clear on anything if you have a child ill, especially in the hospital. One thing I have found with my two boys is that just being there with them, even if fighting distraction, is all that matters. Kade knew things were different, but at that age they are so resilient to things that they just go on and move forward, he didn’t feel any less important, just knew things weren’t right.

As a parent we find moments that will riddle us with guilt all the time. Discipline, balancing work and fun with the family, etc. But the most important thing is to always let your kids know how important they are to you every day, and to show them love thru your actions and words. Being a parent is hard work, and trying to fairly balance between multiple kids is really tough, but ya’lls work has been extremely hard considering what Morgan has been thru, so don’t feel guilty, it’s just part of the territory.

You’ll always have moments in the future where you’ll get to do things with just Kade, so if you feel too bad just plan a Kade and Dad afternoon and let him soak up a little bit of that uninterrupted time. I have to do that with my boys from time to time, it’s just part of the path of being a father.

I’m glad to here I’m not the only one that feels this way.

Thanks for the words of encouragement.
