9 Hours vs. 5 Minutes

It is true when my car got fixed, and I drove off from where my car broke down. I found the gas station was only over the ridge…less than 1/2 a mile away.

Alien Island

Here are a few preliminary sketches I recently did for a project. I might develop a few of these into a more finished piece.

Scary Tree, Pig and Girl

Here’s a drawing I recently did for my Masters Degree. I’ll be posting a lot more in the near future.

Foxy Vampire

Some days you just need to draw foxy vampires.

Scooter Painted

I finally got around to painting the scooter design I did a while back and it’s being modeled for animating as I type. I’m really looking forward to having it modeled and rigged so I can animate it.

Character Design

Here’s a couple of drawings from a character design class I’m taking

The assignment was to take reference photos and then draw your character in the pose…it was a lot of fun.

3d Cartoony Demo

Last week I did a demo on cartoony animation at SCAD. I talked about how arcs and spacing are key to making it work. Pushing 3d rigs to there breaking points is a LOT of fun. This is the results from that demo.

FOUR!

4 years ago was one of the darkest days of my life. My son Morgan was born.

Normally this is suppose to be the happiest day in a new dads life. This wasn’t the case for me, my son Morgan was born only 24 weeks into my wife’s pregnancy (which is normally 40). That day was hard, my wife had emergency surgery and was nearly comatose from all the drug and stress. My son looked nothing like a new born baby and was struggling to live. It was such a lonely time.

It’s hard to believe that dark day has also turned into one of the best things that could ever happen to me. Morgan turns 4 tomorrow and is doing amazing…he’s the toughest little fighter who defied all the odds.

Keep kicking ass Morgan. Love you!

Which Scooter/Moped do you want?

Working on a little project with a scooter, think Herbie the Love Bug. Now I’m going to cartoonify one of these but which do you like best? One more note, it will have a basket with a chicken in it.

From Gesture Class

I teach Action Analysis at SCAD, which is just basically a gesture drawing class. I did a demo of a 10 minute drawing today for my class. When poses are this long I gesture in shadow shape to create more depth.

Gesture Drawings

Here are some gestures I did this weekend. The rougher ones are 2 mins, followed by 5 mins, then 10 minutes. They all were done with charcoal sticks on newsprint…yes traditionally!!!
